LIBRARY LIVING

Library's can be daunting, not knowing where to start can scare people away from using the library, but they're such a great source of information. Not only this but they can be the perfect study space. It's also a common thought that the library is a boring place, but I'm here to change this.

The first step to successfully using a library is getting over the stereotype that a library is a 'boring' place to be. There are thousands of resources such as books, articles, magazines and often computers to help you with your research and studies. Understanding that these resources are extremely valuable to your studies and will ultimately help you to achieve higher grades than if you didn't use them is the best way to persuade yourself to use the library and get the motivation to study somewhere other than your bedroom.

Library's are also a great place to join with friends or group members when working on a project. As long as you are respectful to others around you by not making too much noice, working as a team in a library can help you to build your resources faster and collaborate much better as a group. Library's will also normally have 'quiet' working spaces rather than 'silent' working spaces, which will allow you to talk quietly amongst yourselves without disturbing others.

How does YOUR library work?

Understanding the way that your local university or town library works is the first important step to starting your library study journey. If you're a complete beginner, most library's offer tours to help you locate the resources that you need if you just ask, you may have to book, so keep that in mind! It's also totally okay to take a trip to your library just to take a look around without the intention of doing any work. As long as you stay quiet you can just go and browse books and resources that you may want to use so you don't feel as lost when you go to study for the first time.

Making use of the study locations around your campus or city is one of the best ways to utilise your study time. Doing work at home is great because you can be settled in your home comforts and enjoy your own space, but this can often lead to distractions. Using a library or on-campus study space can provide you with the peace you need to motivate yourself to do work. There are little distractions in a library which help you to focus and get as much work done as possible. They're also a great space to read if your accommodation is a little noisy!
