Is there a new way of eating out post COVID? For many of us we have resorted to our trusty takeout‘s that we had all throughout the several lockdowns, and for many otheirs of us, the joys of eating in a restaurant are back. Or maybe you have become your own chef in your household, gathering loto of recipes and skills during the lockdowns.
In July 2020, Boris Johnson announced a new government scheme in cafes, pubs and restaurants in which allowed us to later in August, Monday to Wednesdays of each week eat for 50% off in the ‘Eat out to help out’ scheme. This was to allow a boost in the fallen economy of the Hospitalaity sector.
Many people believed this scheme was an excellent idea, as people hadn’t had the pleasure of enjoying food in a restaurant setting in over 6 months. However many others believed it was an increasing risk of spreading COVID.
Whilst many of us were sat at our tables, enjoying our lovely food, during this time many people who worked in hospitality found it very difficult.
“Working in hospitality during eat out to help out was pure hell and i dont know how I did it.” - One Twitter handler wrote.
Whilst other Twitter handlers quote “Eat Out To Help Out should make a come back.”
New ways of ordering food to your doorstep:
During covid, we saw a major increase in the food delivery services, in major brands such as Deliveroo and Uber-Eats. These company’s bring the food of many companies to your door in a matter on minutes, with just a double click on your phone.
This has led to many of, instead of cooking, for sn easy meal to buy dinner on these apps. I know i have after a busy day. However, it could be argued that instead of learning how to cook in lockdown, like some of us did, many of us just bought instead, which could lead to a new wave of a lazy generation.
